Family Photography Session The Mathews Family
Whangarei, Northland
cWhen I reached out to Eden to test some new camera gear, the timing was perfect. She had been wanting to update her family photos, so we combined both ideas. We arranged a 45-minute Family Photography session right before the All Blacks game!
We met at Barge Park, a location full of personal meaning for the Mathews family. Eden and her husband had their engagement photos taken there years earlier. Now married with a little girl, returning to that same spot made the session extra special.
The afternoon light was beautiful. A soft golden glow filtered through the trees, creating the perfect backdrop for warm, natural images. Their daughter was playful and full of curiosity, which led to plenty of candid moments.
During the session, I focused on capturing their natural interactions. From laughter and hugs to quiet looks and small gestures, the love between them was easy to see. These real moments are what make family photography so meaningful.
One thing that helped the shoot flow smoothly was the familiarity of the setting. The family felt relaxed, and that came through in the photos. Even in a short timeframe, we were able to create a beautiful set of images they’ll treasure for years.
Family photography isn’t just about posed portraits. It’s about capturing the essence of your family—who you are and how you connect. Working with the Mathews Family reminded me why I love this work. It’s an opportunity to freeze a moment in time in an honest and heartfelt way.
If you’re looking to book your own family photography session, I’d love to help. Whether it’s in a meaningful location like Barge Park or somewhere new, let’s create something timeless together
