Maternity Photography & Family Photography Session

I was once again contacted by Fynlee, a returning client who I’ve had the pleasure of working with twice before. This time, she reached out to create a stunning Maternity & Family photography session in celebration of her second baby. It’s always an honour to have repeat clients it’s a sign of trust, connection, and shared creative vision.

We chose to shoot at the breathtaking Ruakākā Beach in Whangārei, one of my favourite Northland locations for maternity and family photography. With its sweeping coastline, soft dunes, and natural light, Ruakākā always provides a magical backdrop for capturing intimate family moments.

The weather was characteristically Northland – beautiful one moment and wild the next. Just as we were getting into the groove of the shoot, a sudden storm rolled in. At first, it seemed like the day might be cut short, but we embraced the moment and kept shooting.

What happened next was pure magic. The dramatic skies, wind-swept hair, and deep tones created a rich, emotional atmosphere that elevated the entire shoot. These are the kinds of moments that remind me why I love maternity photography – it’s not just about documenting a pregnancy, it’s about capturing the raw, powerful essence of motherhood and connection. The storm became part of the story, adding a beautiful contrast to the softness of Fynlee’s growing family.

As a family photographer, I’m always focused on genuine connection – between parents, siblings, and the new life they’re preparing to welcome. Fynlee’s little one was full of energy and joy, making the candid family moments even more special.

This session is a perfect example of why I encourage clients to embrace the unexpected. The weather, the movement, the imperfections – they bring authenticity and emotion to the images. Whether you’re planning a maternity photography session or looking for a natural, connected family photography experience, I’d love to help you create something beautiful and true to your journey.

I’d love to chat.
